The Current Status

Extreme flooding has devastated communities across the Southeast U.S., including Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Heavy rainfall and rising rivers have caused widespread evacuations, severe damage, and tragic loss of life.

Casualties and Displacement 

  • At least 16 confirmed fatalities, with 14 deaths reported in Kentucky.
  • A levee failure in Rives, Tennessee, forced 250 residents to evacuate, with 60% of homes severely damaged. 
  • Over 100 water rescues were performed across Kentucky and Virginia.
  • Infrastructure & Power Outages 

  • Widespread road closures and impassable areas.
  • At the peak of the storm, 18,000 outages in Kentucky, 26,000 in Tennessee, and 23,000 in West Virginia. Most power has since been restored.
  • State & Federal Response 

  • Kentucky: Major Disaster Declaration Approved – Residents and public facilities in designated counties qualify for FEMA aid.
  • West Virginia: Major Disaster Declaration Requested – Pending approval for 13 impacted counties.
  • Virginia: National Guard Deployed to assist with emergency relief and rescue efforts.
