James serves as Good360’s Chief Financial Officer. His work over the past 20 years bridges the nonprofit and for-profit worlds and focuses on building sustainable and impactful organizations. He is responsible for Good360’s finance, accounting, and investment operations.
James’ nonprofit financial leadership experience spans programmatic, advocacy, foundation, and infrastructure organizations. He oversaw $900M in assets under management for Tides Foundation and over 140 fiscally sponsored projects for Tides Center. James was previously CFO and CIO for Bridgespan, a global nonprofit consulting firm. At Bridgespan, he oversaw the creation of an $80 million DEI-focused investment fund for Bridgespan’s mission-related education programs and the launch of a third international office in Singapore. Previously, James served as the chief financial officer for the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, a national nonprofit whose mission centers on creating a just economy and signed over $90 billion in community benefit agreements with banks to provide investments and loans for underserved communities. James was responsible for financial planning across core programs and company-owned buildings and coordinating across related entities including a CDFI and a 501(c4). Prior to NCRC, James served as Chief Financial Officer for GuideStar, which specializes in nonprofit financial data, while also overseeing the fundraising and IT product development departments. At GuideStar, James introduced Impact Calls, modeled on earnings calls for publicly traded companies, and negotiated data deals with for-profits such as Google. His efforts were recognized by Association Trend’s Nonprofit Transformational CFO of the Year award in 2014. Earlier, James led financial and technology projects for national and international divisions of media companies including The Wall Street Journal, MTV International, John Wiley & Sons, SiriusXM, and Showtime Networks. His original passion was environmental engineering where he started his career.
James is active with a variety of organizations and currently serves on the boards of nonprofits, Impact Network, and the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging. Previously, James served on the boards of various community radio stations, judged the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s annual awards and the International Emmy Awards, was president of his block association in New York City’s Alphabet City, and headed rank advancements for his son’s Boy Scout troop in McLean, Virginia.
James is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he majored in Economics and Biology, and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School. He currently resides outside Washington, D.C. in the town of Vienna, Virginia.
