When Hurricane Helene swept through North Carolina, families in Asheville and beyond faced overwhelming challenges. Homes were damaged, schools were closed, and parents struggled to juggle work, recovery, and childcare. Good360 stepped in to support disaster recovery in Asheville, partnering with Project:Camp to bring hope and healing to the community’s youngest members.

Creating Safe Spaces for Children After Disaster

In the aftermath of disasters, the focus often stays on food, shelter, and essential supplies. But for children, the emotional toll can linger long after basic needs are met. That’s why Project:Camp specializes in trauma-informed day camps that offer structure, play, and a sense of normalcy—critical elements for young minds processing upheaval.

By supporting children, these camps also give parents much-needed time to rebuild their lives, knowing their kids are safe and cared for.

How Good360 and Project:Camp Supported Asheville Families

Thanks to donations facilitated by Good360 and our generous corporate partners, Project:Camp was able to respond immediately after Hurricane Helene. In Asheville and Brevard, they set up camps stocked with everything from art supplies to fidget toys. These weren’t just activities—they were essential tools to help kids cope and reconnect.

Stories of Impact From Local Families

One Asheville parent shared how these camps became a lifeline:

“Our two other kiddos had support in other ways, but Vivian had been bouncing around with the adults as we tried to balance work. It was such a relief to have her in a safe space, getting to play and be a kid, after so much. I love your organization.”

Another family, who attended camps in both Brevard and Asheville, expressed deep gratitude:

“My kids and I are eternally grateful for the opportunity for some positive memories and opportunities to play with other kids (and childcare so their dad and I could work!). Thank you, thank you!”

The Importance of Flexible Disaster Recovery

Good360’s approach to disaster recovery in Asheville and other impacted communities goes beyond immediate relief. By providing flexible funding and essential goods, we empower organizations like Project:Camp to meet the unique needs of families—when and where they need help most.

Every community’s path to recovery is different. Through strategic partnerships and long-term support, Good360 helps ensure that healing includes more than just rebuilding homes, it means rebuilding lives.
