Gopal currently leads Amazon’s Worldwide Returns & ReCommerce organization, where he oversees the multi-billion-dollar returns business serving customers globally. In this role, Gopal has end-to-end responsibility for all aspects of the business including P&L, technology, product development, and operations.
Previously, Gopal served as vice president of Amazon Distribution and Fulfillment Solutions, where he built and scaled SaaS fulfillment services for 200,000+ small business, enterprise, and public sector customers across 10 countries. He also spent five years leading Amazon India’s marketplace business, where he grew the seller base from 30,000 to over 700,000 sellers and scaled the business 12X to multi-billion-dollar revenue. Under his leadership, the team launched social impact programs supporting 200,000+ women entrepreneurs (Amazon Saheli) and 800,000+ artisans (Amazon Karigar), enabling reliable incomes through digital commerce.
Before joining Amazon in 2008, Gopal served as director of digital products for BusinessWeek. Prior to that, he held leadership roles in the non-profit, healthcare, insurance, and energy sectors.
Gopal earned his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from the University of Madras in India.
