Six Months Later: Recovering from the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season

It has now been just over 6 months since these three hurricanes impacted more than 25.8 million people in the US, causing more than $360 billion in damage.  Experts estimate that each of the impacted regions has 8-12 years of recovery ahead. While this was one of the most devastating hurricane seasons on record, we also saw the public, private and nonprofit sectors come together, in previously unseen ways, to help restore and rebuild communities.  

Good360’s role in the disaster recovery arena is to fill gaps in product needs when they exist  we are focused on delivering the right goods to the right people at the right time during all stages of a disaster, from the initial response phase through long-term recovery and rebuilding.  

We are now in the recovery stage in each of the impacted regions – Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.  More than $3.2 million in needed goods has been distributed in these areas in the last three months alone, bringing our total impact to more than $11 million in critically needed goods getting to those who have needed them most.  Overall, for every $1 donated, we have been able to deliver $29 in needed goods.

Now more than six months after the initial events, we are seeing a new set of needs from the nonprofits and agencies on the ground.  Items like lumber, tools, insulation, paint, roofing, mattresses and furniture are now needed as homes begin to be reconstructed.

Good360 is working with more than 50 on-the-ground organizations in these impacted regions and we are expanding our reach daily.  In total, our current partners have committed to rebuilding more than 1,050 homes by the of 2018.

In this 6-month report, you will find an update focused on what we’ve accomplished just in the last three months.  We thank all of our partners who have donated cash and/or in-kind goods for their generous support of the individuals, families and communities impacted by 2017’s devastating storms.

Shari’s previous experience includes management consulting as well as various executive and leadership roles at both start-ups and large media and retail e-commerce companies in Southern California, New York and Silicon Valley. She is also an adjunct professor teaching classes in marketing, advertising and entrepreneurial studies and she earned her MBA from The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.
