Mutual of Omaha Employees Help Good360 Package Toys and Clothing for Families in Need

sept2013blog1As part of its National Month of Caring, Mutual of Omaha employees are helping Good360 sort and package donations for nonprofits across the country. Every September the company encourages its employees to volunteer four hours on company time at a local nonprofit organization. With Mutual of Omaha’s headquarters in the same city as Good360’s National Distribution and Sorting Center, several employees are donating their time to sort through toys and clothing that will be distributed across the country to help people in need.

“I never imagined the process that donations go through,” said Mutual of Omaha employee Regina Clausen. “There is so much involved.”

Good360’s National Distribution and Sorting Center relies on the generous time of volunteers to efficiently and effectively package a wide range of donations.  Annually, truckloads of new products arrive at the Omaha warehouse.  These donations are then sorted and kitted into thousands of cartons and hundreds of pallets ready for shipping to nonprofits throughout the country.  Without the volunteers and community partners that help, this would not be possible.

sept2013blog3Volunteerism Connects Employees with Community

Recent studies suggest that employee volunteerism boosts both morale and productivity.  Companies that encourage employees to volunteer in their community are able to boost their bottom line. By engaging employees in local nonprofit service projects, companies allow them to make a difference and inspire them to become inspired ambassadors of the corporate brand.

As Mary Beth Hansen of Mutual of Omaha said, “It’s great to be here and see all the new clothing that is being donated for people.”

sept2013blog2This is Mutual of Omaha’s fourth year organizing the National Month of Caring.  In 2012, more than 1,400 employees and agents in nearly 33 communities across the country volunteered more than 6,000 hours of service.
