12 Jul RH Provides Team Rubicon Volunteers With A Place To Rest
LIVES IMPACTED: 76
One of the first organizations to respond to the $125 billion worth of devastation from Hurricane Harvey was Team Rubicon. Within days, Team Rubicon was on the ground in southeast Texas, helping rescues alongside other disaster response organizations. However, their mission soon grew beyond that. Recognizing the enormous need that would persist in the region, Team Rubicon decided to pilot their first ever rebuild project. Being that they had never stayed for the rebuild stage after a disaster, their partnership with Good360 was instrumental in filling the gaps in their product needs along the way. Restoration Hardware, a long time Good360 partner, saw the need for continued donations in support of the 1.2 million survivors impacted by Harvey. Through Good360, Restoration Hardware was not only able to contribute to the recovery of hurricane survivors, but also to the establishment of organizations like Team Rubicon in the region. Once Team Rubicon recognized the need to stay in Houston for the long-term recovery, they needed a local base of operations as well as living quarters for their volunteers and staff members. While training for their first rebuild, the team built a 2-room home in the back of their warehouse. They integrated different techniques for window and door trim, as well as lighting and ceiling/roofing construction into their shelter to maximize their team’s exposure to repair efforts. What they couldn’t build, Restoration Hardware provided through their generous donation of furniture to Team Rubicon’s base of operations. Team Rubicon always says “disasters are their business, but veterans are their passion.” While rebuilding disaster-survivors homes is why they are in Houston, they are also there to support the reentry of their veteran team members. Part of this process requires a comfortable private space for the veterans to reflect on their work and think about their future. Donations like Restoration Hardware’s make austere living spaces into comfortable homes away from home for volunteers who put their lives on hold to help others. Their partnership with Good360 enabled their donation to go to use in one of the best ways possible – helping those selfless individuals who live to help survivors. Good360 is proud to partner with companies like Restoration Hardware, and our work with organizations like Team Rubicon ensures that the helpers are not forgotten in times of disaster.
