30 Mar Helping Young Women in Rochester, New York
DONATION: ITEMS FROM 3M, GAP, AND DISNEY
LIVES IMPACTED: 100
The YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County has a history that is deeply rooted in the needs of low-income women. Since 1883, we have been providing shelter, vocational training and basic education to women and children in Rochester, NY. Over 1,000 women and children turn to the YWCA for support each year.
Our donation room is used as a place where young moms come if they are in need of items for themselves or their babies and it has allowed many of the participants to obtain diapers and baby items when there was no where else for them to turn. We also use the donation room to reward positive behaviors.
The outcomes of our program have to do with graduation, attendance and avoidance of a repeat pregnancy. We allow students that have been regular in attendance, on track for graduation and accomplish goals extra time in the room, and they often have first choice of the items. The items that we receive are excellent quality and the young people in our program are very appreciative. We don’t know what we would do without the support of Good360 and the retailers that contribute. Many of our program participants graduate and attend higher education, or find employment–all with the hopes of making a better life for themselves and their babies.
We are thankful for the items we receive from Good360. It has been an asset to the work that we are trying to do with the women and young moms that attend our programs.
