YWCA Women Pamper Themselves With New Beauty Products

The YWCA Spokane Safe Shelter is dedicated to empowering women, standing up for social justice, helping families, and strengthening communities. Our mission is to ensure the safety of survivors of intimate partner violence by providing safe shelter, counseling, case management, education, and basic necessities such as food, clothing, personal care items and transportation.

Good360 distributed more than 150 name brand nail polishes and a number of facial products to us and all of these went directly to the women in our program. Most of the time we receive basic need items, which are very necessary. However, we rarely get beauty products, so this was great. These women deserve to feel beautiful and special. They usually come to our shelter not having any cosmetics or beauty items with them, so it is such a treat to be able to share these things with them!

When we received the products, we passed out some of the nail polish to the women and they all immediately began painting their nails. This may seem like a small thing, but there is a much larger significance to this. Some of these women have never been able to use makeup, wear a bold nail color, or just sit and take a moment for themselves because of their abusive, controlling relationships. Something as simple as wearing a bright, fun nail color can actually help a woman feel a sense of empowerment. These are the feelings that lead to someone feeling in control of their own future and feeling like they deserve better in life than what they had previously experienced.

The YWCA Spokane hosts a “Spa Day” once a year for the women who use our Domestic Violence program. This daylong event gives the ladies the chance to relax and get pampered. During this year’s Spa Day, we will be able to distribute the nail polish and facial wash. Thank you so very much for letting us know that these items were available. We loved getting them! We greatly appreciate every opportunity to provide any special products for the women we serve.
