28 Nov Working with Families in Need One Diaper at a Time
Organization: The House of Refuge, Refuge Outreach Ministry
Lives Impacted: 50
The House of Refuge, Refuge Outreach Ministry located in Darlington, SC helps struggling, homeless or battered mothers within the community. Our main mission is to help women provide a better future for themselves and their children through donation programs and advice. Many of the survivors in our lower income areas need financial and emotional help, and look to our services for help with personal or household items.
One the biggest struggles our mothers face, is making ends meet while needing everyday expensive items. Diapers are a very costly product and some of the mothers and women have to choose between eating healthy food for the week or buying cheap diapers. These donations help ease some of the stress that comes from having to make that decision. Many face stresses, theft, and the risk of having someone call DSS on them for not having a clean diaper.
One of the couples that came to our organization didn’t know where their next meal was coming from, let alone their diapers. Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford many diapers for their child because they were homeless with little to no income. I watched them as they walked into our building and the baby wouldn’t stop crying, as if he was uncomfortable or struggling. I spoke to the couple and realized they didn’t have any fresh diapers and they desperately needed to change their baby. I gave them diapers to last them for some time and the gratitude the mother gave me was priceless. Thank you Good360 for working with us to ensure that those in our community feel like they are taken care of.
