Together We Bake, located in Alexandria, VA, is an empowerment-based workforce training program for women in need of a second chance. Our program is centered around a small baking business through which women actively learn and participate in food production, food safety education, and business administration. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive workforce training and personal development program to help women gain self-confidence, transferable workforce skills, and invaluable hands-on experience which will allow them to find sustainable employment and move toward self-sufficiency. Building confidence is a huge part of Together We Bake’s work and this donation from Good360 truly helped to empower women.

Together We Bake serves women in need that have very few items of clothing and often are dependent (yet grateful) on clothes that have been donated to them. They thoroughly appreciate the opportunity to go shopping and choose their own new pieces that match their style and needs. This experience provides a huge boost to their self-confidence and a fun bonding experience to meet new people. We have an alumni team member event every other month and that includes a shopping night for alumni to return to Together We Bake to reconnect them with teammates and “shop” for new clothes, accessories and shoes. This was truly a highlight for TWB alumni team members.

We had the pleasure to work with the Best Buddies program and Good360 to organize and donate Francesca’s clothing items with the help of their Program Operations Specialist, Gabriele Bastin. She helped group the items together by category, match them in a spreadsheet by their store numbers and cross-reference each item with our checklist. She mentioned how much fun she had matching up the different types of items and counting them throughout the spreadsheet. It was a fun project and we were all honored to give women the clothing items that they need.

Harley is a 31-year-old single Mom who has battled anxiety and depression but is strong and able to cope and stay positive. She is an aspiring writer and incredibly creative, currently caring for an adorable 8-year-old. She loves to bake and finds it very therapeutic. She has a calming influence on others, is a joy to be around, and is currently working in retail. She tries to stay very busy volunteering for several organizations and hopes to find a position in the nonprofit world where she can make a difference in people’s lives. Harley is currently looking for a new job and having some new outfits will improve her self-confidence which will in turn improve her chances of getting the job!
