Veterans Find Hope with Holiday Donations

Organization: Morgan’s Hugs
Lives Impacted: 120
Donor: American Girl Dolls
As Told to Good360 by Morgan’s Hugs
Morgan’s Hugs, located in Eaton Rapids, MI, is a nonprofit that gives back to disabled veterans in the community. The organization was founded by a 15-year-old girl who faced personal tragedy when her father became disabled. After the incident, she decided to help veterans and their families that are struggling by working with her community to provide them with new clothes, shoes, hygiene products and more.

Thanks to these donated items from American Girl we were able to kick off our annual back to school event at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Nationals home to help give back to military families and their children during the holidays. The program originally was created for children, but we started to realize the positive effect the Santa for Soldiers program had on everyone in the community.  The program gives our disabled veterans the ability to “shop” for their family’s Christmas gifts at no charge. We pride ourselves on being able to show appreciation to our veterans. As you can imagine, the dolls were a huge hit!  If we can provide aid to even one veteran, that changes their mindset and opens a line of communication.

Last summer, we met a disabled veteran who was in and out of hospitals and unfortunately did not have family in the area. His son was out of the country and unable to check in often, so our organization not only checked in on him, but provided his family with a holiday dinner and other needed items (food, hygiene, etc.). It’s small acts of kindness that help the community grow in a positive way, and we are proud to be a part of that. Thank you to Good360 and your partners for helping our veterans find hope again.
