Lives Impacted: 30+
theVillage, previously named Presbyterian Children’s Village, is a child care center in Pennsylvania for children struggling with trauma. Our mission is to promote the healing of the spirits of children, families and communities broken by trauma including violence, neglect, addiction, poverty, mental illness, racism and other serious problems. In addition to working with our foster families, we serve a large immigrant population in this area through our community-based prevention programs. theVillage holds a deep faith in the worth of every child and believes it is possible to have a lasting, positive impact on each troubled child and family.
Through our program, we work with foster families that care for abused and neglected children and with low-income families. Many children in foster care come from homes where their parents rarely interacted with them and so they are not used to fun time or educational time and certainly not wholesome eating. The items received are used to assist foster parents in helping their children feel comfortable in their homes with creative projects centered around food and play. Along with providing fun cooking activities with their children and increasing consumption of wholesome healthy fruits, they create fun indoor and outdoor activities to strengthen the bonding process!
One of our recipients is a single mother with a 12-year-old autistic son who also cares for her aged grandmother. The three of them are currently living in a basement apartment, which lacks space and basic needs for both her son and grandmother. She has not been successful in getting resources from a mainstream autistic support center, so with the help of Good360, and our organization we were able to give this young mother items that brought tears to her eyes. She shared, “no one seems to understand that when you are poor, with a child whose needs are extensive and living in a low-income community, it’s extremely hurtful to not receive help”. Thank you Good360 for helping lighten the burden of a young mother and for bringing a smile to her son.
