DONATION: THE HOME DEPOT BUILDING SUPPLIES, LIGHT FIXTURES, SINKS, CABINETRY, ETC.
LIVES IMPACTED: 200+
The Richmond Community Foundation harnesses the power of philanthropy to build healthy and sustainable communities in Contra Costa County, CA. We aim to help families thrive and give children new hope for a bright and abundant future. We impact the area through the three C’s of community building: coach, connect, and contribute.
Through Good360, we have received several donations from The Home Depot. These donations range from building supplies to toilets, sinks, and cabinets. We have used them in our Richmond Housing Renovation program. In the program, we acquire the boarded up and abandoned homes throughout our city, focusing first on those that are close to schools and parks. We renovate them using local contractors and trainees from our city’s Richmond Build training program. The product donations from The Home Depot go into these houses, helping us reduce material costs and keep the houses inexpensive. These houses go to low and moderate income first-time home buyers who are graduates of SparkPoint, our local HUD certified home ownership center.
Part of the reason some homes in our city remain boarded up and abandoned is that the cost to acquire and renovate them exceeds the value of the homes. The donations from The Home Depot help us to keep our costs low so we are able to renovate the houses at a low cost and first-time home buyers can get the most affordable deal possible. Thanks to these donations these home buyers can get a beautiful new home with great amenities at a reasonable price.
One home buyer said, “We had been wanting to buy a home for quite a while and were starting to lose hope until we saw this house. The first time we set foot on this property, we fell in love with it and we knew this was our home. We love to have people over for gatherings and we feel this home is perfect for those occasions. We can’t wait to show off our home to our family and guests. We really do love it!” Thank you to The Home Depot and Good360 for making this and other similar stories possible!
