As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, businesses have altered their supply chain operations and offered creative products to help frontline workers. A. Lava & Son Co. and Reverie are examples of companies using their resources to assist.
Lava & Son Co., a Chicago-based textile supplier reallocated its manufacturing facilities, sewers, automated cutting equipment and engineers to produce critically needed face masks, mattresses, and other items. One of the supplier’s customers, Reverie, a company that specializes in bedding products including mattresses, pillows and linens pivoted its supply chain efforts to address the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), specifically masks.
As of April 18, there have been approximately 5,400 cases of COVID-19 which have resulted in almost 160 deaths in Boston. At Tufts Medical Center, 120 hospital employees have tested positive for COVID-19 (as of April 16). With the assistance of The UPS Foundation, Good360, Lava & Son Co., GoldenTree Asset Management, and Reverie provided 10,000 newly produced Health and Human Services approved masks to the staff at Tufts.
This an example of manufacturer and retailer ingenuity during this pandemic. With a mix of creativity, need and manufacturing knowledge, companies and individuals are working together to make a difference.
