Children of Parents with AIDS, Inc. (COPWA)/Guiding Light located in Harlem, NY promotes preventive services for “at-risk” youth & families living throughout the area. Our main mission is to help parents and prospective parents of children living with HIV/AIDS gain emotional and spiritual comfort in knowing that their children will be provided for in a safe, loving and nurturing family environment. Our grassroots program model is simple and effective because we provide free clothing and furnishings to individuals and families in crisis. Through our program, families receive vouchers if they have demonstrated a need because of their personal situation, such as having recently been released from prison, experiencing unemployment, illness, and other crisis situations.

New beginnings/Closet Distribution Program, offers a variety of programs that address the underlying, complex factors that create barriers among young people and adults. The closet addresses the immediate and pressing needs families have for basic necessities such as clothing, shoes, bedding and house goods. Thanks to donations like these athletic shoes, it helps those with job interviews, back-to-school season and keeping warm during the winter. We were able to help a family last year when one of the parents lost their job and they needed help getting clothes for their children before back to school. The parents were so grateful to have this option to fall back on, since they were budgeting monthly living from paycheck to paycheck. Thank you Good360 and thoughtful donors for helping us continue our mission and helping those transitioning through difficult times.
