As Told to Good360 by Runway Moms For A Cause

Runway Moms For A Cause is a small nonprofit based in the Washington, DC area with the mission of supporting the well-being of indigent women and children in marginalized communities through self-empowerment and self-care.   Our main initiative is through a fashion platform called Runway Moms for a Cause (RMFC) – a fashion initiative with the mission to serve as a vehicle to raise funds to support our programs.  Each year, RMFC profiles and celebrates accomplishments of mothers who impact change in their communities in a fashion runway show.  Our ultimate goal is to infuse fashion to get as many people together in the context of giving back.

Our program provides year-round periodical in-kind donations at no cost to all individuals and families classified as being in need – especially families with young children transitioning out of homelessness.

Good360 helped us match with a local Walmart in Mount Airy, Maryland in October and have formed a strong relationship with the claims department.  After the initial meet and greet last fall, we decided on a weekly routine, so Wednesday morning at 7:30 am, before her day job, our founder Lara goes to the back door of the store and rings the doorbell.  She is met by her contact and warmly greeted. Bob, the claims supervisor, and Judy, his associate, has the donation boxed up and ready to go.   The Walmart store donated about five cartons of great items ranging from apparel, plush toys, water guns, toilet paper, trash bags and an office shredder. We are thrilled with the donation and know we can create care packages that will be used to encourage folks in need.

Having this amount of product opens doors to help form partnerships within the community.  The product from Walmart has been donated to women’s safe houses, homeless shelters and Title 1 schools.

Thank you to Good360 and Walmart for making our program such a huge success.
