08 Apr RTI International Donates $70,300 to Provide Ongoing Hurricane Matthew Relief
The staff members of RTI International have donated $70,300 to assist with ongoing relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. The donation was made to the American Red Cross, and will be used in the efforts to provide relief to the coastal United States and the islands in the Caribbean that were affected.
Hurricane Matthew was one of the strongest storms to ever hit Haiti. While 45 people lost their lives in the United States due to Hurricane Matthew, over 1,000 people died in Haiti as a result of the horrendous storm. The hurricane destroyed crops, flooded villages, and leveled countless homes. RTI International has projects and staff members located in Haiti, personalizing their donation and reinforcing that disasters can impact anyone, anywhere. The flooding in North Carolina, the state in the U.S. most heavily hit, was at a level unseen since Hurricane Floyd hit the region in 1999.
RTI International initially promised a corporate donation in the amount of $25,000, and then offered to match any employee contributions for Hurricane Matthew relief. 240 staff members came together and contributed an astounding $22,650, for a total donation of $70,300. Jim Gibson, RTI International’s Chief Operating Officer, stated, “the generosity of staff in support of this effort is tremendous. Once again, our staff have stepped up to help those in need and demonstrated our commitment to improving the human condition.” The donations from RTI International were split evenly between U.S. and Caribbean disaster recovery efforts in order to reach as many people as possible.
