07 Feb Nucor Steel Donates to One SC Fund
Nucor Steel Berkeley fully recognizes the importance of supporting community disaster relief efforts. Following the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Giff Daughtridge, the vice president and general manager of Nucor, publicly announced the company’s donation of $100,000 to the South Carolina disaster relief One SC Fund.
One SC was established to provide disaster relief funds and resources to the people of South Carolina. The Fund is relatively new: its first disaster relief effort so far has been to offer recovery services to those affected by Hurricane Matthew. However, despite the Fund’s recent creation, it’s an effective source of disaster relief: the fund has distributed roughly $2,000,000 in grants to flood recovery projects, South Carolina disaster relief organizations, and nonprofits that are dedicated to helping flood victims in South Carolina get back on their feet. Nucor, which is the country’s largest steel producer and has a number of operations in South Carolina, was one of the top contributors to the One SC Fund.
Nucor’s support of the One SC Fund and other South Carolina disaster relief organizations highlights one of the latest—and truly socially significant—trends in corporate social responsibility: corporate disaster relief. This type of CSR effort not only helps local communities in need when disasters strike, but it also helps to establish a positive relationship between companies and customers. When companies give to disaster relief, customers recognize this as an act of goodwill, and they often respond by publicly supporting the company. Effectively, giving to disaster relief can help a company to drum up more business and customers. To learn about Good360’s disaster relief program, click here.
