Luci Lights Bring Relief to Hurricane Survivors




It has been four months since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, but large portions of these regions are still without basic necessities such as power, clean water and reliable transportation. Additionally, providing aid to the citizens of Puerto Rico has been especially challenging due the damaged infrastructure and lack of supplies, but Good360 is dedicated to finding creative solutions to ensure that the most pressing issues facing these communities are addressed.  

In response to the ongoing crisis in areas that were devastated by Maria, Good360 sought to activate our network of partnerships across the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Good360 has found reliable partners on the ground in Puerto Rico and USVI such as All Hands Volunteers, Crisis Response International and the Ninos de Nueva Esperanza Community Center. The need for light sources was continually stressed as the most pressing need by these partners. Good360 set out to find a creative solution that would bring light to these communities that are still lacking a source of power.  

Good360 teamed up with Citizen Watch to address this situation.  For more than 40 years, the innovative watch company has produced timepieces that are powered by natural and artificial light, eliminating the need for battery replacement.  Under a partnership with Good360 last fall, every purchase of a Citizen watch on or at their flagship store in Times Square in New York was matched by a donation of a Luci solar-powered light from MPOWERED. Citizen Watch pledged to donate a total of 5,000 Luci solar-powered lights to Good360 which would then be distributed to nonprofits on the ground in impacted regions.    

Citizen Watch sent the lights to the Good360 warehouse where they were added to containers and sent to Puerto Rico and USVI. The lights were then distributed to businesses and members of the community who could charge them during the day to then use as a personal light source at night. Citizen Watch was quick to respond to this desperate need and provided exactly what was needed to support the community. The delivery of this product is a prime example of how effective Good360’s collaborative model can be. With the nonprofits’ knowledge of what is needed on the ground, Citizen Watch’s access to those goods and Good360’s ability to bridge the gap between the two, the delivery of critically needed product was made possible.  

Partners like Citizen Watch are critical to Good360’s mission of delivering the right product to the right people at the right time. The disaster field is very fluid and having partners who are able to adapt and respond to the changing needs are extremely valuable. Good360 is proud to align itself with partners such as Citizen Watch who are able to respond to disaster recovery needs quickly and effectively. Good360 will continue leading collaboration across sectors on the disaster field and delivering the right product where it is needed most.

Shari Rudolph is Chief Marketing Officer of Good360 and is an accomplished retail, digital commerce and media executive with a strong track record of building audience, revenue and brands. Shari’s previous experience includes management consulting as well as various executive and leadership roles at both start-ups and large media and retail e-commerce companies in Southern California, New York and Silicon Valley. She is also an adjunct professor teaching classes in marketing, advertising and entrepreneurial studies and she earned her MBA from The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA.
