Levi Strauss & Co. Product Donation Helps Refugees Find Peace in Europe

Organization: Heimatstern e.V.
Lives Impacted: 5000

Heimatstern e.V., located in Munich, Germany, is an organization that helps people in need, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation or income. We believe that every human being is entitled to physical well-being, an entitlement which can be at times impaired by hunger, insufficient health care or lack of proper housing. Our goal is to explore and develop strategies and ways to advocate for the full integration of refugees into our society. The Levi Strauss & Co.  product donation is a great way to start the refugees’ integration process within their new country as your appearance can determine if you have integrated into the country’s culture and mindset. Garments can help refugees regain some dignity as many had to wear the same clothes for weeks and did not have the possibility to change clothes.

When the truck arrived in front of our warehouse with the donation from Good360 – totaling up to 968 boxes-, we were overjoyed to see that we’d be able to serve thousands of refugees and people in need across Europe. The boxes were filled with jeans, t-shirts, blouses, jackets, pullovers and more. It is extraordinary to receive new, modern and fashionable clothes. Many beneficiaries couldn’t believe they got those for free. And after six weeks, thousands of items had already left our warehouse to get to refugees located in Italy, Bosnia, Romania and Greece.

Being able to make a difference from something as small as a t-shirt hugely motivates us, and it drives us to send out these clothes as quickly as possible. The pride you can see in the beneficiaries’ eyes when they are wearing their new clothes, brings a great sense of hope and happiness to our organization. Churchill, a refugee from Nigeria, was living in a camp with about 1000 other refugees. He stopped by our warehouse looking at all the men’s clothes. Yet, Churchill experienced some difficulty in even accepting a new pair of jeans and a jacket. He was so used to being treated with neglect and hostility that he was reluctant to take any of the item.

While they are all officially entitled to receive material aid, some do not get the same access to that aid. Our organization does its best to distribute the items as fast as possible, but sometimes it’s hard to meet the demand. Thank you Good360 and Levi Strauss & Co. for this kind donation, this will help us to continue focusing on our mission towards helping those in need.
