As Told to Good360 by Boys & Girls Club of Huntington
The Boys & Girls Club of Huntington, located in Huntington, IN is open every day after school and all day during the summer to ensure that our youth have a safe, fun, and positive environment. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. By doing this, as well as providing high–yield activities, targeted programs, and encouraging regular attendance, we pride ourselves on giving members the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to achieve academic success, which are instilled along with good character.
Thanks to this donation from La-Z-Boy we were able to give new furniture to college students who were going to be living out on their own for the first time. It is a nice base to start with for a graduating high-school senior, and it was great to see the excitement and gratitude these teens had over the recliners. During the graduation event, we had people bidding on the chairs to make it seem as though the chairs were unavailable. Once the chairs were “auctioned” off, we motioned to the four seniors to try them out for the winners. Since they were already on stage it was the perfect surprise when we told them the chairs were theirs to keep and the money from the auction was actually to pay for their last program conference for their schools. The seniors were so appreciative and since two of the four seniors are already living on their own/with friends, they were able to take the chairs immediately home to use. The other two mentioned that they will be taking their brand-new La-Z-Boys to their college dorms. Thank you Good360 and La-Z-Boy for helping us give back to these seniors who are the first to go to college in their families, this was a great sendoff gift!
