02 Mar Joann’s Fabric Donation Inspires Creativity in Students
DONATION: JOANN FABRICS, ART MATERIALS, HOME DECORATIVE ITEMS
LIVES IMPACTED: 500
The Andrew Cooke Magnet School is located in a high-poverty community in Waukegan, IL. We focus on the fine arts and sciences. The donations from JoAnn Fabrics could not be more appropriate for (or appreciated by) our school. There have been so many projects and adventures that we have completed with the donated materials.
This year, we have a new art teacher who started an afterschool art club. When she saw the recent donations, her amazement and happiness reminded me about how fortunate we are to have this partnership. She has made lots of plans with these materials. In her art room, there is a large walk-in closet and the materials are organized and ready to go! She started an afterschool art club and has been using the materials with these students as well.
Students have popped their heads into my classroom to show their treasured projects: paper sculptures, button pictures, Mexican round mirrors, and so much more. It’s all possible because of this donation! You can see displays of their colorful work around our school. It is truly exciting and rewarding to see someone use these materials to their fullest.
The monthly donations include home and outdoor decorations as well. These items are everywhere around our school and make it a more inviting and homey place for our students. Some of the items are also given to our high poverty families to brighten their lives and homes. Thank you so much to Joann Fabrics and Good360 for these wonderful products.
