Fashion Your Own Mind is an organization located in San Jose, CA that aims to give a better quality of life through financial support to children and adults living with cancer. They offer support to those in need and to people transitioning through homelessness via essential resources and supplies needed to live a sustainable life. Other services provided are job development skills, creative arts workshops (for those with physical and mental limitations) and help searching for permanent housing.

Unfortunately, many of the people that are facing homelessness are those that have served in the Armed Forces. For years they didn’t have money or other resources to get needed items. We were able to provide them with household appliances like kitchenware, coffee pots, sheets, covers, bathroom rugs, curtains, mops, irons, and so much more, helping set them up for a new future. This donation helps people who lack the ability to get items due to several different reasons, the lack of finances chief among them. Bed Bath & Beyond made it possible for FYMO to have these valuable household items on hand to give to the people in the communities. This enabled us to fulfill our mission to give quality items to those in need, those facing homelessness or coming out of homelessness and to those who may be ill due to cancer.

One recipient that has been impacted by our Finally Home Program is Nick who received several Bed Bath & Beyond items for his new home. Thirty-three-year-old Nick was living in a boarding home due to his psychiatric needs, and visits our Sacramento location regularly. During his visits, he lent a helping hand and made an incredible impact to FYMO and our Finally Home Program needs. Recently Nick was able to move into his own apartment with two roommates. Since this was a big step forward, we wanted to help him get the housing supplies he needed. FYMO was able to help by giving a long list of household items including a TV wall unit and kitchen items. He was elated to receive his new TV and he couldn’t believe it was his to keep. He said he was so happy about the good people that are out there to make a difference in his life. Thanks to our Bed Bath & Beyond donation we have been able to provide those in need with household items to help them settle in their new homes and give them additional hope for their personal path forward.
