Helping Improve The Ohio Community with Bed Linen Donation

Organization: Tutoring Nurtures Talent, Inc.
Lives Impacted: 100

As Told to Good360 by Tutoring Nurtures Talent, Inc.

Tutoring Nurtures Talent, Inc. (TNT), located in Norton, Ohio, is a nonprofit organization committed to providing free supplemental programs and educational services to students in addition to offering household products to families and the community at large. We partnered with Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) and the first balanced literacy center was established. Today, our program continues to grow and our services are available at locations throughout the Ohio area. Recipients of donations through TNT used the items to meet basic household needs. The items are distributed through scheduled giveaways to hundreds of people that would never otherwise be able to purchase them. Linens, electronics, dishes, cleaning tools, food products and more were given away during this 10-year community service project.

Thanks to this partnership with the leading american chain of domestic merchandise retail store, we were able to meet the needs of establishing and maintaining households for those who currently have the least in our community. These recipients did not have the resources necessary to purchase the items. Those receiving these items were empowered with the fact that there were agencies willing to provide what they needed, when they needed it, and without red tape. Many could then go on to develop homes for their families and move back to a level of normalcy in their lives. Special donations were given to families who experienced home fires, homelessnesssignificant financial challenges, debilitating diseases, and also were used to help both veterans in need as well as those re-establishing a home following a period of incarceration.

During our distribution, a young woman who had been incarcerated for a number of years was released to a half-way facility. She was soon to be released from the re-entry program, and had secured an apartmenthowever, she had very little in order to create a home. She started attending a church which was a TNT partner organization. TNT was contacted by the church and asked if assistance was available. TNT provided linensmattress and box spring, kitchen appliances, furniture items and more. Another young man and his family were homeless and recently located to this area. TNT was contacted and the agency provided linens, small appliances and other necessary items for the family to establish residency. The family was also given information about local agencies willing to assist with meeting their needs. Thank you Good360 for providing families and individuals a place to call home.
