16 Jan “I Got Shoes, You Got Shoes!”
DONATION: COMFORT ONE SHOES
LIVES IMPACTED: 300+
The Second Baptist Church of Falls Church, VA was planned and organized in a two-room log cabin owned by Elder Hiram Reed in 1870. Through prayer, worship, and praise our membership has grown and we are no longer in that two-room log cabin. We are a Bible-teaching church with community outreach programs designed to help those in need. We are often called “the church on Baptist Hill with the sweet spirit.”
Saturday, November 19, 2016 was a beautiful, crisp day in Falls Church, Virginia. Second Baptist Church opened its doors to the community with a free giveaway of shoes (or “zapatos” to our Hispanic friends and neighbors). The donation of shoes was received from Comfort One Shoes through Good360. The Second Baptist Church Outreach Ministry’s mission is simply to serve those in need and serve we did! At this event, we were able to serve everyone from youth to seniors. These individuals may be ill and in need.
The number of lives impacted by this event is significant. The lines were triple thick and very, very long. We were fortunate enough to serve all who came out. It is safe to say that the number of lives impacted was easily several hundred individuals. This number includes the homeless, as well as many struggling families. There is an old expression which says, “I got shoes, you got shoes, all God’s children got shoes”. We applied this saying to our event.
The church has received emails, phone calls, and personal testimonies of appreciation from so many, thanks to this donation. A special story involved two women currently living in their car. Two pair of boots were delivered to them to help them get through winter. Their expressed surprise and joy inspires us to continue this special journey. Another woman needed a new pair of shoes for a new job she was starting. Because of this donation, she was able to receive three pairs of shoes to fit all her needs. She was so happy to receive this gift and hugged one of our missionaries so hard! Our sincere thanks to Comfort One Shoes for this generous donation through Good360.
