Heroes Camp located in Mishawaka, IN, is a camp for children and volunteers in the area. This camp includes sports and fitness activities, barbershops, bible study and a dining cafeteria to serve hot meals for breakfast and lunch. This particular donation was used when we had our first ever elementary school basketball game. A team in the area had an opening to play and so we had the athletic shirts on hand to pass out. We looked like an official team. The kids felt larger than life as a gym full of older peers and parents cheered them on. We passed out several other shirts to other participants in Heroes Camp.
To some this may seem small, but to most this was a huge gift. For most of these children having clothing that fits is something new. Most deal with hand-me-downs, or worn out items smelling of everyday wear. When we gave these kids a name brand item with the most popular recognized brand by youth, they found their confidence. The culture values the quality and name of the brand so the kid feels their own value when they are given something of value. Even if their life situations are less than desirable, they still feel worthy by having quality products and more. It’s not that their identity is in the clothing, it’s that they realize someone took the time to think of them and offer them name brand apparel. This is for all the single moms on a single income trying to provide for three or four kids. At the end of the day we all need help to get where we are going. Thank you to all of our donors and Good360 for bringing quality and value to these children’s lives.
