As Told to Good360 by Mercy Housing
Mercy Housing, located in Denver, Colorado, is one of the nation’s largest affordable housing organizations. We participate in the development, preservation, management and/or financing of affordable, program-enriched housing across the country. We acquire and renovate existing housing, as well as develop new affordable rental properties. We’re a national nonprofit organization that is working to build a more humane world where poverty is alleviated, communities are healthy, and all people can develop their full potential.
Thanks to this donation from Bed Bath & Beyond, we were able to help individuals who were once homeless receive new items for their rooms. Most of the residents were previously homeless or marginally housed and most often come with only the clothing on their backs. Household goods, like the bedding that was donated, is valued by our residents who may have little to no bedlinens. The sheets and pillowcases donated assist the residents with not only having appropriate bedding, but also helps them maintain a healthy home.
We have two residents who recently moved into one of the homes in San Francisco with only a few items of clothing. When the residents arrive, you never quite know what they will need. Both recipients were struggling with homelessness and have been exhausted from lack of sleep. They were extremely happy to receive the bedding that we had, which ranged from air mattresses to mattress pads. Along with the bedding, we also had Bed Bath & Beyond sheets. One of the men cried because he was so happy and surprised, he thought he was going to have to sleep on the floor in his apartment again. Thank you, Bed Bath & Beyond and Good360 for helping us make our residents feel like they’re home.
