As Told to Good360 by Allen Chapel AME Church

AllenChapel AME Church, located in Washington D.C., is a nonprofit organization that aids individuals and families in the area. We help improve their living situations through donations and provide services to seniors in transition housing and wellness groups. The donation of bedding, towels, rugs and additional household items. Since this was such a bountiful donation, we were able to distribute the items during donation drives, one-time pickups and giveaways. Our project has been very successful and life changing to many.

For example, a senior public housing building in Southeast Washington, D.C. was destroyed by a fire and individuals from 162 units were permanently displaced. We coordinated with community advocates to provide products to help reestablish those individuals in other facilities. The senior occupants were very grateful and appreciative. During one of our distributions we met a young woman who had been attending various events with our Evangelism Outreach Ministry and we were unaware that she was on the verge of homelessness. She was using newspaper to cover the windows, had no cooking utensils, dinnerware or silverware. Through our Missionary Society Project, we were able to provide her with the necessary items for her kitchen and bathroom. As we prepared to take her home, she was so appreciative that she began to cry, we all stood around her with tears in our eyes and realized this is the true meaning of community. Thank you Good360 for helping us change lives.
