As Told to Good360 by Bud Osborn of Pacific Northwest Adventures 4 Kids
Pacific Northwest Adventures 4 Kids, located in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, strives to help terminally ill kids on hunting and fishing adventures in a safe and relaxing atmosphere. We also occasionally serve low-income, at-risk youth and disabled veterans. Our organization goes on many hunting and fishing adventures to give these kids a break and experience the outdoors. Through these adventures, we are able to expose them to new and exciting things that the kids may have never dreamed of, which gives them a great sense of pride and accomplishment.
On these adventures, we need to cook, so when we have access to electricity outlets or a generator, we are able to use these infrared cook tops just like a normal stove to provide food to these families. Thanks to this donation from Secura, we can teach these kids how to prepare and cook the meats they harvest as part of the process. It is a learning experience many people never get to have. One of the children from our most recent trip is diagnosed with Autism, and he often feels left out. He always wanted to do the things that other family members did but was often hesitant to try because he has never been exposed to these adventures. With much patience and a lot of effort, he was able to harvest not one, but two sources of meat for his family, which was far more than other family members had been successful in providing for many years. While camping, he learned to cook for his family on the cooktops. Thank you Secura and Good360 for giving these children life-long memories and unforgettable experiences.
