Disney Book Donation Touches 500 Young Lives

Donor: Disney

The mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Nowata, Inc. is to enable all children, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.  We received a donation of books from Disney through our partnership with Good360 that allowed us give all of our club members new books to take home and keep. In addition, we let our Torch Club leadership members deliver new books to each child at Nowata elementary and Oklahoma Union elementary schools.

We know that many of our kids don’t have new books at home, and we loved encouraging them to choose a book they liked and then take it home to read.

Reading and reading comprehension are two of the biggest indicators of future success in school and in life. Encouraging reading and being read to is something we stress at the Boys and Girls Club as we work toward our goal of helping the kids who need us the most to be successful and productive citizens. We only charge $20 for an annual membership for each child, and we rely heavily on grants and donations to keep our club operating. There is no way we could have purchased these beautiful, new books, so we were thrilled to have them donated to our organization so that we could get them out to the kids.

One grandparent who came to our donation site and picked out several books for her grandchildren. She started to cry, telling us how much she would enjoy giving them to her family and how she could not afford to buy them.

Thank you to Disney and Good360.  We touched 500 lives with this donation, giving children the gift of new books.
