The Kids’ Community Dental Clinic in Burbank, CA is dedicated to improving children’s oral health through quality dental care and preventive education for low-income families in Southern California. Dental disease among children is preventable, yet it persists throughout the country in epidemic proportions. In order to address the progressive nature of dental disease, it is critical to build an oral health services delivery system for children from ages 0 to 18 that emphasizes early intervention and prevention; overcomes the financial, educational, cultural, geographic, and psycho-social barriers to services; provides outreach, counseling, and education in a variety of settings; and assures access to early and continuous dental diagnostic, preventative, and treatment services. We are dedicated to creating this system, and removing barriers to services through outreach, counseling, and education to all patients.
We buy quality toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss or flossers that meet the needs of each patient by age and size. We give one packet of flossers to each patient when they come for cleanings. Although good tools can be expensive, we provide our patients with quality items all the time so they will use them liberally at home. We have many children who come in with rampant decay and limited resources to correct the issue. One little girl and her sister came as new patients during “Give Kids A Smile” week during their spring break and found out she had eight cavities. She is three years old, and although we were not able to get her cavity free, we are working with her on a hygiene routine.
We encourage parents to bring their children in when they have their first tooth. We have a long road ahead with these two children to restore them back to good oral health, but the donations we receive go a long way. Each of the 10 cases of 40 packs of flossers will impact about 400 children. Thank you SunStar and Good360 for helping to improve the hygiene habits of the growing children in our community!
