06 Dec Contest Winner: Providing Warmth to Families in Need Throughout California
Organization: Child Care Links
Lives Impacted: 25
Donation: Eddie Bauer
Child Care Links is a private, non-profit agency located throughout California and advocating for quality child care. We act as a link between government social service agencies and low-income families. We actively collect and evaluate current information about the emerging needs of the community and develop strategies to meet changing child care trends and regulations. Individual support and education are also offered to child care providers, parents, and the community.
Thank you to Eddie Bauer for the donation of warm winter coats that were given to the recipients in our agency. This donation was given to families, children and adults to help them keep warm during the winter. While suffering from homelessness and other housing issues, clothing should be the last thing to stress about for these families. The families that received an Eddie Bauer jacket could have been forced to face health issues like the flu and pneumonia without these jackets. This donation helped solve warmth and health issues, while also helping the families feel empowered. Many were given a sense of relief knowing their children will be warm while at school, child care and in some cases, while sleeping in their cars. It helped the community we serve physically, mentally and emotionally.
One of the families that we helped through our organization, experienced sudden hardship when the single mother had become ill and found it difficult to work steadily which affected her income. Faced with the daunting task of whether to pay the expensive rent in the Bay Area or feed her family of 3, she fed her family. Now she finds herself as well as her 2 children with nowhere to live and sleeping in her car most nights.
She was connected to some local resources and was elated when she came across Child Care Links. On October 25th Child Care Links held an event called, “Share the Harvest”. At this event, our client and her two children were assigned a personal shopper who was in charge of helping them navigate through this 100% free “shopping experience”. As they approached the section marked “Clothing”, joy filled their faces. As our client, the children, and the personal shopper were looking through all the items, they came across three new Eddie Bauer jackets. Sandra and her children were more than happy to receive the jackets. With tears in her eyes, our client expressed, “It’s been so long since I’ve been able to provide my children with winter clothing, especially anything new. I am more than grateful that I won’t have to wrap my 5-year-old up in multiple blankets while she sleeps tonight. This means more to me than any of you know.” Our client and her family left that day with jackets to keep warm, as well as warmth in their hearts knowing that places like Child Care Links and Good360 care. Thank you again Good360 and Eddie Bauer for helping families like Sandra’s feel special for the day.
