Contest 2nd Place Winner: Families Receive Home Goods to Start Over After Hardships

Organization: Furnishing Hope
Lives Impacted: 800

As Told to Good360 by Furnishing Hope

Furnishing Hope, located in Newport beach, CA, strives to facilitate healing, reduce stress and encourage the overall feeling of security for our families as they transition to independent living. We accomplish this by providing the furniture and supplies needed to create a nurturing home. Furnishing Hope transforms empty spaces into peaceful and comfortable homes, complete with furniture, new mattresses and bedding. We are successful when we see the smiles on their faces, tears in their eyes and the relief in knowing they will have a place where they can heal and their family can thrive.

We supply kitchen set-ups for our recipients and these items are now incorporated into our homes. Now we also offer ironing boards, irons and vacuums thanks to Good360. Our recipients have very little or nothing when they move into their new houses, and we make it a home by supplying them with the necessary items to stock a kitchen and run their household.

Thanks to this donation of furniture, we were able to set up our families for success and healing. As they transition to independent living, having a home with supplies and furnishings instead of an empty space aids the healing process, reduces stress and encourages their overall feeling of security. Our recipients feel empowered to continue to care for their family and not return to homelessness. Studies show that if a previously homeless family is set up with furnishings and supplies instead of just an empty house or apartment, they are more likely to not return to homelessness

One of the families that received these items experienced a series of events that led them to homelessness.  This single mother and her two children were forced to give up their home after health issues and losing employment. After several weeks, the family was living and sleeping in their car. After staying in shelters, they were able to move into an apartment. “We moved into this apartment in December. We haven’t been able to get furnishings: your help will make us comfortable. Thank you.” Thank you Good360 for helping provide to these families in need.
