As Told to Good360 by Mary Erickson Community Housing

Mary Erickson Community Housing (MECH), located in Corona, CA, provides affordable housing and promotes the well-being of working families in Southern California. As a non-profit corporation and designated Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), we believe that by increasing and preserving the supply of affordable housing, we positively impact the quality of life for working class families in our neighborhoods. Through our Life Skills and Teen Forward programs, we promote the well-being and self-sufficiency that encourages a progressive lifestyle for families most in need.

Our residents, the recipients of this donation, are all very low-income families that can’t afford to purchase extra items such as toasters, kitchen appliances and new linens that are truly needed. This donation provided our families with the opportunity to receive these much-needed items to add into their homes. Thanks to this donation of furniture items, our families were given the opportunity to have clean, safe homes.  The linens provide warmth and comfort for our families, and the household items make it easier for families to prepare healthy meals.

One young man, about nine years old, was so thrilled to receive a new bed as he did not have a bed at home. The donation of this roll away bed meant so much to him because it was his.  He looked out for his little brother and sheepishly asked if his brother could also have a bed. The reaction from this family warmed our hearts and reminded us why we do what we do. Thank you Good360, for providing these children with a good nights rest.
