United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, located in Poughkeepsie, NY, fights for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. We prioritize children in our community to be educated and ready to succeed, as well as all families to be healthy, financially stable and independent. With the power of caring organizations and individuals, we make our community stronger and our community better.
Thanks to this donation, we were able to help people start fresh with a new living situation that puts them on track to a better life. Last year we hosted a quarterly “Day of Sharing” event in the basement of our Poughkeepsie office which benefits the kids and families in our area. The day was created to invite nonprofit organizations and schools to come and “shop” at our free store and help underprivileged children. Nonprofit representatives come with a list in mind of the items needed to best serve the clients of their organization and with two hours to shop, can sort through these items on a first-come, first-served basis. The donations distributed throughout “Days of Sharing” helps support those that do not have the resources to supply their clients with certain basic items. These donations are used to help members of nonprofit organizations that are trying to rebuild their lives and start over. By providing bedding for their new apartment or home décor, families can spruce up their living spaces with new seasonal items.
A lot of representatives that attend our Days of Sharing are from different homeless shelters that service survivors of domestic violence. In a recent donation, we discovered a beautiful fuzzy area rug, and when the nonprofit worker found the item she lit up. She mentioned that she had a member who had just moved into a new apartment after a traumatic domestic violence situation and she was looking for items for her new home. Another member of the nonprofit is a family who recently lost their family apartment to a fire and were thrilled when they received the new twin bed sheets for their sons. Thank you Good360 – these wonderful items help give some hope back to the families in need who are looking for a stable happy home.
