10 Dec Bed Bath & Beyond Donation Brings Families Closer After Heartache
Organization: United Way of the Plains, Inc.
Lives Impacted: 300
Donation: Bed Bath & Beyond
United Way of the Plains, Inc. located in Wichita, Kansas, gathers resources to meet community needs to help women and children reach their fullest potential. One of the programs that we host, with over 300 recipients, is based in the domestic violence shelter in the community. Due to the many hurdles that go into helping the ladies, mostly moms, get a new home started for themselves and their children, donations like these from Bed Bath & Beyond are so meaningful. The comforters, sheets, towels, shower curtains and other items make a simple apartment a wonderful warm home. When the budget is small, getting these amazing items donated really helps people use their limited budgets to get other needed items.
Our GIV program, powered by Good360 and Bed Bath & Beyond, allows a woman coming out of that shelter to focus the money she does have on rent and utilities because she can get bedding, linens, curtains and so much more from us. These donations combined with the food pantries in the area help with the huge financial burden of starting over. A good night’s sleep makes it easier to get up, get the kids to school, and yourself off to work every day.
Last month, we helped make a real difference in a young family’s life. They were really struggling with three children. The family of five shared one queen-size bed, mom and dad slept on the box spring and the three kids slept on the mattress. The parents never got any sleep, which made their morning duties extremely tiring. Getting the kids up for school and getting to work themselves sometimes never worked out well due to exhaustion. Thanks to this donation, we were able to provide a memory foam mattress, new pillows for everyone and new sheets and fresh blankets. Thanks to this partnership the kids are doing better in school and the parents are better employees making them a happier family.
