ACANA, in Philadelphia, PA, aims to provide social services and community development services to African and Caribbean immigrants in the Philadelphia region. These immigrants are faced with many hardships and are usually underserved in our community. They often come to this country with nothing, and have to start from scratch to make their new house feel like homes.

The donations that we received from The Home Depot and Bed Bath & Beyond were great for these families. We received many essential items that these families truly needed. The items received play a vital role in remodeling or redecorating their homes and giving them a sense of normalcy after their lives had completely changed. Not only do these donations help ease a financial burden, they also allow these families to resettle and create a new life in a beautiful environment.

We used some of these donations to repair homes occupied by immigrant women and their families, especially those who face various forms of abuse. The ladies from these families are part of our women’s health and wellness programs. They receive ongoing services such as social service case management and mental and physical health treatments. We also help them with any job and employment issues they may have. This donation helped alleviate some of our home repair costs and we were able to put more funding into these extremely important programs for women. This donation has truly helped throughout all aspects of our organization.

One of the stories that stands out to me most is that of a woman and her daughter who came to our organization for help. Faced with the challenge of losing her job, and with no relatives in the Philadelphia region, this mother was struggling to provide for herself and her daughter. The family was on the verge of homelessness due to the state of their home and came to our program just in time. Through the donations received through Good360, we were able to provide them with new home goods and supplies to begin much needed repairs on their home. This would not have been possible without these donation programs. Thank you from all of us to everyone involved!
