Backpack Donations Bring Excitement for the New School Year

As Told to Good360 by Shining Lights Helping Hands Corporation

Shining Lights Helping Hands Corporation, located in Hillburn, NY, was founded after Hurricane Sandy to help the friends and family members that ran into a shortage of food, fuel and drinking water. Since then, we have made it our mission to help families that can use extra support to ensure that their quality of life is not jeopardized. Although we help all individuals, we prioritize families with children that need extra help to develop their talents and enhance their social, physical and intellectual development.

During our back to school donation collection, we were rounding up enough backpacks to provide to children in the area whose families could not afford them. Thanks to this donation from Good360, we provided over 300 bags (96 of which came from Good360) to new students during the summer. Children in need came to receive book bags and school supplies for the start of their new school year, free of charge. By receiving new school supplies children are better equipped to start the new year with dignity and confidence, which correlates with success. One of the young girls from the group was able to choose the new book bag she wanted. When she did, she hugged it and then told us that she never had a new book bag before. She also shared that the book bag that she currently had was handed down to her and she had used it for four years from her older siblings. Thank you to Good360 for helping us get students excited about their education through school supplies.
