04 Sep Truckload Donation of Mattresses Help Hurricane Michael Survivors Recover After Disaster

Disaster: Hurricane Michael
As we approach the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Michael hitting the Florida panhandle, we are sobered by the fact that there are still families who are living without a bed to sleep in at night. As the storm moved through the region, many families’ homes had their roofs ripped off or windows blown out, allowing the torrential rain and winds to destroy nearly all their belongings. As repairs are being conducted on their homes, parents and children are left to sleep on couches, the floor, or old used mattresses. Thanks to Good360’s partnership with this retail company of kitchenware and home furnishings and High Socks for Hope, we were able to alter that reality for 15 families over the course of one weekend.
One of the most life-changing items a person can receive is a high-quality mattress to sleep on every night. This is especially true for families that have just experienced a traumatic event such as a hurricane. Thanks to the generously donated truckload of quality mattresses we were able to distribute the entire load to Hurricane Michael survivors. Over the course of one weekend 15 teacher and police officer families had brand new beds delivered to their homes and set up by volunteers from High Socks for Hope and The Sheepdog Connection. The Sheepdog Connection volunteers came all the way from Athens, GA to spend the weekend helping families get their new beds all set up in time to sleep in that very night. Families were overwhelmed with gratitude to know that so many entities came together to help them make their lives a little easier.
Although 15 families were helped already, there are still enough mattresses donation to continue to help families affected by Hurricane Michael. Good360 understands that the needs that arise after a category 4 hurricane stretch well beyond the initial impact. We will continue to partner with organizations like High Socks for Hope to ensure we are meeting the needs of these families in the most effective and efficient way possible.
