As Told to Good360 by High Socks for Hope
It has been 8 months since Hurricane Michael hit the Florida Panhandle and there are still countless families struggling to make a full recovery. After the news teams turned their focus from the region, many of the survivors felt like the rest of the nation had forgotten them. Some people are still living in tents in their neighbors’ backyards or sleeping on floors in their half-damaged homes. Good360 saw the desperate need in Florida and pledged to help these families in any way we could.
Last month, Good360 signed a lease on a warehouse near the affected region that would serve as a collection point for furniture donations. Furniture has been one of the most highly requested items we have received from nonprofits on the ground. The high need for furniture is due to the fact that families who received insurance money had to use all of it to pay for the repairs on their home leaving them with nothing left over to pay for refurnishing it. Recently, Good360 and our nonprofit partner High Socks for Hope were able to make a furniture delivery from our warehouse to two families who were in desperate need of furniture and high-quality beds for their family.
The Scott family is temporarily staying in a neighbor’s house while repairs on their home are being completed. The father is a Marine veteran who is living with chronic back pain and was sleeping in a lazy boy chair every night. Not only was he living with the stress of being displaced from his home, but at the same time his back pain was getting worse with every passing night. Good360 partnered with well known mattress retailer to get the veteran a high-quality mattress that he and his wife could rely for many years to come. The family was so grateful to no longer have to worry about something as simple as having a good place to sleep on top of living with the stress of being displaced from their home.
Thanks to amazing partners like these who are able to provide critically needed products, and nonprofits like High Socks for Hope who can identify where the products will be best utilized, we are able to help families in a strategic way that helps expedite the recovery process. Good360 will be assisting nonprofits in Florida throughout the long-term recovery and ensuring that as many families as possible have what they need in order to complete their home and return to normalcy.
