Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on Thursday, August 27 near Cameron, LA as one of the strongest hurricanes ever to make landfall in the state. Hurricane Laura, which struck Louisiana in late August, caused an estimated $14 billion in damage.
Many families are still living in temporary lodgings—hotels and shelters–across Louisiana and Texas, and weeks after the disaster these families still ask for help from the general public. Good360 is working with nonprofit partners on the ground to provide emergency household and personal supplies to vulnerable families in Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas along with neighboring states.
Hurricane Sally rapidly strengthened into a category two hurricane before making landfall along the gulf coast early in the morning on Wednesday, September 16th. Due to the slow-moving nature of the storm, Hurricane Sally brought widespread flooding and storm surge to coastal areas of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle.
Some areas of Alabama and Mississippi received over 29 inches of rain from the storm with Georgia and the Carolinas witnessing flooding and power outages.
Good360 continues to work with nonprofits on the ground to monitor the situation and prepare to distribute critically needed product in strategic locations impacted by the storm. As a flood event, volunteers are currently “ mucking and gutting ” homes to clear debris and performing mold remediation.
