Good360 | 2021 Winter Storms

Texas and other states without water and heat

Severe winter weather is impacting the US from Portland, OR to Pascagoula, MS.  Amid power loss across the state of Texas, millions are without heat, have limited basic supplies, and have been advised to boil their water for safety.

Snow and ice have blanketed nearly three-quarters of the continental United States. Additional cold weather threatens to keep Texas and many other states in these conditions for several more days. Many communities are facing no power and no water for up to a week or more. Unfortunately, at least 38 people dead have died nationwide, as a result of the winter storm.

According to the American Red Cross, nearly 3,200 people were housed in over 150 congregate and non-congregate shelters in ten states (Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, and California).  Over a half-million customers in Texas are without electricity
